As you will know from by now, one of the specific areas where we have been invited to work is Sweet Home Farm, Phillipi, an informal settlement of 17,000 people living in shacks. Don is involved with an organisation seeking to improve housing provision, and Lorna, through NewDay United, in introducing community services such as health promotion, education, and supporting the development of social enterprise.

Together with the leaders of the community a recent focus has been on the urgent need for a fit-for-purpose community hall which would allow more extensive services, including a health clinic to be introduced, and which would also accommodate churches, and larger community meetings of up to 400 which currently have to take place outside. The intent is that the community hall would be built using a simple building technology already demonstrated and accepted within the community which would promote training and employment for community members. The introduction of such a facility would be a huge benefit in so many ways to the community of Sweet Home Farm, bringing hope to people currently living in entirely unacceptable circumstances every day.

Surprisingly, perhaps, this community hall can be built and equipped for approximately £40,000, the price of a typical one-room house extension in the UK, and with your help and generosity we are sure this target can be realised. The funds will be administered for the community by NewDay United (a registered charity) and it is important to know that every penny raised will go towards the project itself!

Thank you for partnering with us!

‘In a word, what I’m saying is, grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.’

Matthew 5:48 (The Message)
